Weekly WIP: Knife Clown
This week has not been very productive for me. I’ve been waiting to get some Golden Super-Loaded Matte Medium. The paint I have been using is so glossy that I’ve been having trouble rendering highlights and judging my blends. I’ve been putting up with it for my Infinity miniatures but I was disappointed by how poorly my Batman came out.
I had contacted a local shop to see if they carried the medium. They said they did but were out of stock. Two weeks later I’ve had no indication that they are planning to restock and I’m tired of waiting.
I’ve had matte medium for a long time but normally use it to make my paint translucent. I thought that since my paint was so opaque I can use it to reduce the gloss. It may take two coats instead of one but I’m used to that with most other paint brands.
Of course I’m not likely to try this out on Joker in case it doesn’t work and I don’t want to paint another Infinity miniature so I started with one of his thugs. Not that Infinity models aren’t enjoyable to paint but I just really want to paint Batman miniatures.
I have to say that with the flatting finished the medium seems to have done the trick. The black areas are still glossy but that’s because I don’t think I need enough medium. I’m looking forward to painting again tomorrow, which is a nice feeling.
Sadly this was all of the painting I accomplished this week but at least things are moving forward. I have definitely noticed that when painting miniatures momentum is very important and waiting for a product that never arrived hurt mine severely. I’m not yet back on the roll I was but I hope to get there soon.
