Weekly WIP: Brick and Flint
Another week, another two miniatures. That’s right, my plan to paint two miniatures at once has paid off and I was able to finish Brick and Flint for the Masons Guild Ball team.
As usually I layed out my colours, making choices about which sections are going to be blue or brown. It was at this stage that I realized that Flint had a “brah” beard and decided that it would be a dark brown instead of blonde like his head.
I wanted to linger forever on Brick’s right forearm to render the shapes perfects but I forced myself to move on. These shapes without an obvious way to highlight and shade are the most interesting to paint.
Speaking of interesting shapes to paint I made a mistake on Brick’s right leg. I focused too much on the creased cloth and forgot that the shape was simply a tilted cylinder. I must remember to work on the large shapes before I add details like creases.
The blue I use is Vallejo Model Colour Dark Bljue. It found that the highlights looked very flat, especially across Brick’s shoulders. I really don’t use blue very much in my painting.
I stopped taking pictures until I finished as I was rushing to get things done. Despite having the “perfect” environment I am less happy with the metal on these miniatures compared to Honour and Mallet from last week. There just isn’t enough contrast.
Once again I an relieved after attempting to paint NMM to be otherwise finished. Just the darker metal like the chain, the brown straps and the hair. I decided to give Brick a monobrow. I’m not sure I like it but it is done.
I haven’t taken any pictures yet but this week I’ve also been working on a Universal Carrier for Bolt Action. I’ve assembled, primed and airbrushed the basic colours. Next step will be to finish painting the crew. There’s no way to finish assembling the carrier and then add the crew so I’ll be be performing weathering and details with the crew in place.
I missed this week’s Bolt Action game and I will be focused on finishing the last two, three if you count the ball, Guild Ball miniatures to finish my Kick Off Project two weeks early. When that’s finished I’ll be digging into my backlog instead of starting something new.
