Dented Metal Mayhem: Heavy Gear Gallery
Strictly following SEO best practices I’ve decided to re-upload my Heavy Gear gallery. Because when you’re getting a bunch of hits based on people searching for Deadzone why would you want to post Deadzone content?
Heavy Gear is a nostalgic game for me. When I was first getting into miniatures I became obsessed with the roleplaying game. Today a good section of my bookcase is taken up by black-and-yellow hazard striped Heavy Gear books. Dream Pod 9 also produced a miniature game which tied into the RPG and Rafm produced miniatures for it.
I didn’t really play the “tactical” or miniature game until many years later when the rules were completely stripped down and streamlined. With an internally produced miniature line at 1/144 instead of Rafm’s 1/87 scale and playable rules I really wanted to like this game. It was one of the few games where I’ve actually painted more points of miniatures than would be fielded in a normal game.
It is also the only miniature game I’ve played in a tournament setting. I don’t write many tactics article and between you, me and the entire internet, you should view them as “for entertainment purposes only” if I ever did. Despite being absolutely crushed during the games I did win “Best Painted Army” which was nice.
Ultimately casting flaws in the models made painting what would normally be very enjoyable miniatures very frustrating. I also didn’t enjoy the game as much as I thought I would. It looks like Dream Pod 9 is taking another crack at the rules and I’ll be sure to keep an eye on them. Then again between Deadzone and Infinity I don’t think I really have room for another game.
Has anyone played the new rules? Let me know what you think in the comments or chat me up on Google+ or Twitter.
