Dungeon Saga‘s Starter Throughly Kicked
Update:
Mantic is pulling the Gabrielle Erailc character from the game. They’ve announced that they are seeking licensing to use the character from Geek and Sundry. I guess the character is less flattering fan-art than a company trying to gain monetarily from someone else’s IP. Personally I hope they are able to work something out as I like and respect both parties.
Well, that was fast, 4 minutes to be exact. That’s how long it took for Mantic’s latest Kickstarter, Dungeon Sage: The Dwarf King’s Quest to be funded. They really seem to be on a roll with these things.
I find it interesting that there aren’t a bunch of different pledge levels. They don’t need people to spot them a buck to get this thing going. They just want to know if you want to buy the game and by doing so greatly increase the amount of cool stuff coming out for it. There are seperate add-ons which should keep any run-away backer levels causing them to lose money.
Stretch goals are dropping thick and fast as can be expected from a campaign that’s funded so quickly. I’m sure there’ll be a bunch of cool stuff for it. Backers of the Deadzone kickstarter are still getting stretch goals.
The game itself looks interesting. There is definitely some Heroquest/Warhammer Quest/Descent thing going on. I liked Descent in theory but it never got much play. Depending on the rules for Dungeon Sage it may be a better fit. We’ll have to see how it shakes out.
Personally, I’m not going to be backing this Kickstarter. I’ve yet to back any, actually. I’m fairly judicious in my hobby spending and only like to buy things when I’m ready. This may mean that I’ll end up paying more and missing a few Kickstarter exclusives if I decide to invest heavily in the game but I’m ok with that.
Of course, things may change as more content comes out. I wouldn’t be surprised if a good game demo video wouldn’t change my mind. Even contemplating such a video is starting to drag my mind around. I just realized that the Kickstarter probably won’t ship immediately so I may actually be finished my current projects in time to start this one. Dangerous thoughts.
How about you? Kicking it or waiting for more information like me? Let me know in the comments, plus me on Google+ or tweet me on Twitter. Also subscribe because I’m hoping to get more details on this game as it is released.
