Fall-In 2013

Went to Fall-In this past weekend and thought I would put up some pictures of the games I played in / Found fun.

The main event for me was the SAGA tournament on Saturday, I sued a Viking force and had allot of fun.

Game 1:
vs Vikings
Mission: Clash of the Warlords

In this game the 2 forces meant in the middle and just charged at each other. Eventually when both forces were depleted, the my opponents warlord charged mine and we cut each other down in a mighty battle, resulting in a draw.

Game 2:
vs Bretons
Mission: Skirmish

In this game my opponent wanted to play skirmish, to have a longer lunch, I agreed but this turned out to be a poor idea. In the skirmish mission you loose when you have lost 2 SAGA dice. On turn 1 I advanced up the middle behind the hill, to far away to fight anyone. My opponent then charged in and used all of his units to through javelins at a single unit of warriors, keeping 2 dice on the battle board that let you move everything on your opponents turn. On my turn he then moved all of his units more then 12" away from me so that it would take at least 3 turns to reach them. I could see where this was going to end up, so I launched the berserkers at one of his units hoping for a kill, I was short by 1 so his unit survived, and all of my berserks made there way to vallhala, on his turn he returned to close range and fill the last of that warrior unit with javelins for the second unit kill needed to win the scenario.

Game 3:
vs Byzantines
Mission: Clash of the Warlords

In game three I faced a byzantine army, again in Clash of the Warlords, so the 2 forces fight for 6 turns or until a warlord dies. This terrain set up was split by a single house, so I decided to put my warlord and good troops on 1 side, and the warriors on the other. Hoping to crush 1 side and avoid to many fights on the other. I sent in my Hirdmen who killed the rank of advancing spearmen, and then the bow men behind them, my opponet then brought around his cavalry from the other side, and I was able to finish them off using up the rest of the Hirdmen and then the berserkers. With few options left my opopnets warlord then charged mine, and because I still had a few troops close by his died and mine did not, ending the game.

Game 4:
vs Anglo Saxons
Mission: Clash of the Warlords

The final game was against the Anglo-Saxons, and the most bloody and fun game of all. We faced off across a hill and some rocky ground. My oppont had a couple of big units of warriors, which get allot of bonuses on that board, and some archers. I advanced over the hill and used my Hirdmen to wipe out 1 big unit of warriors, but only 4 men survived who were then wiped out by the other unit. On my turn I sent in the crazed berserkers who killed off the second big unit of warriors, but were themselves wiped out to a man. Now I started to have some trouble, as I had traded my 2 good units for his 2 good units, and had 2 poor units starting across uneven ground and a hail of arrows. I sent 1 unit accross this to get the archers, but only managed to kill half, on the next turn they were then destroyed by my opponents warlord and remaining few warriors. With only a few warriors left and my warlord sensing defeat, I made a suicidal charge against his warlord for a shot at a win but was cut down. Quit a fun series of games.

Friday morning we all played in a Napoleonic game in Egypt (battle of heliopolis), with us controlling the French against a force of Mamlukes. Was a dun game but not super fantastic, the guy had some really great armies but I had not remembered to take any pictures.

Battle of the Gravelines
Rule Set: Brazen Chariots
Type: 15mm WW2 Early War

Later on Friday Duncan and I were able to get into a nice WW2 game, the GM squeezed us in even thou it was full, which was pretty fun. I was on the British side with the 3RTR trying to get to Dunkirk to relieve the troops there, and Duncan was on the opposing side with the Germans trying to prevent this. Our objective was to escort a column of trucks down the road to Dunkirk and destroy any German forces we met. This game is basically a skirmish type tank game where all your crew members can use different actions, and players take there turn when their card is drawn from a deck (I was Red-5). It was meant to be a more realistic game so spotting and observing the enemy was really important, and in order to be able to shoot at anything your tank commander had to have a free action to order the gunner to do so. In essence our forces advanced toward each other and started trading shots, resulting some dad tanks. The columns on our right flank got almost to the end of the road but met some German tanks in the village which traded point blank shots until we ran out of time. It was quite a fun game and I would try it again, but it can be a bit slow. Duncan was a bit frustrated as some of the Germans seemed reluctant to fire their guns, and the German ace did not fire a single shot until the last turn!

The terrain for this game was especially great.
