Looking at the rules we did the maximum defense rules wrong.

The defender can have a maximum number of basic defense dice equal to the firepower of the attack but then gets to add in any cover or armour dice on top of that.

I suppose that that might have made for a less bloody game. Might more HMMVs have survived?

The HMMWVs would have had 2D8 regardless -- I think it mainly would have helped the insurgents in the buildings and the US with the extra body army armour die.

Another mistake we made was that when a unit has a serious wound they can only react on the following turn and can't initiate an action.

I don't think the defense dice would have changed much.

The serious wound thing probably would have thou, the insurgents might have been able to get another squad or 2 in a melee.
