Bob's Blog

Postby bayruun » Sun Feb 24, 2013 6:46 pm

I've started to develop a wargames-focused blog. I'm looking for feedback and suggestions, and eventually, requests. So far it's mostly sci-fi, but I'll be keeping track of historical games, fantasy, moderns, and so on.

Seems intreseting to me, the BSG ships look pretty cool. I think the only thing you could have added would be some kind of a scale reference in the pictures or even just giving a rough dimension or something. I know you state what the scales are for the ships but I have no idea how big the BSG ships are so the scale doesn't really give me the rough size of the model. I assume they are roughly the size of the BFG ships?

Does that company sell the fighters as well?

I do like the space ship games, although the only ones I have played are BFG, the 1 by Spartan games (I have a sorylian fleet), and the 1 by the guys that make Heavy Gear.

Thanks;
Mike

I'm setting up a place to do proper macro photography, so I'll update my pictures with scale references once I have that done. I'd say they're about the same size as an Imperial cruiser, though the Basestars take up more space since they're spindly.

That company makes fighters, as do several others. Are you looking specifically for BSG?

I have some issues with BFG, but it's a fun game regardless. I played Eldar for a very long time. I've been considering getting some Rense for Firestorm Armada, but I have to justify it. I own so many games already, and I'm partial to grabbing some star destroyers next. Depends on how things progress.

I've heard good things about Jovian Chronicles (which is what I think you're talking about, since I don't remember them making models for HG ships). I prefer DP9's older games, probably since I used to play them. Blitz just didn't feel right to me.

I was thinking of the fighters for BSG ya, was just curious really not that I am thinking to get into doing BSG miniatures or anything.

Agree about firestorm, I saw the starter at Fandom and thougt it was pretty cool, so picked it up and painted the ships but only actually played it once. I think 1 of the problems with space ship games seems to be that the pool of players is not that big and split up by allot of different games / universes that people are interested in specfically.

Yes Jovian Chronicles: Lightning Strike is what I was thinking of, I think they have dropped that line of miniatures thou.

Thanks;

Looks like they retired Jovian Chronicles this month. I had no idea.

There are some four or five companies that do fleet-scale fighters for BSG, as well as for various other universes. The ones I can think of are Ravenstar Studios, Studio Bergstrom, and B-3 Designs. I'm partial to Bergstrom since I have some great models from them. I think Ravenstar's fighters are cheaper, though; they're resin bases with integrated models.

As for gamers being split between games, that's quite an issue. I had a small Babylon 5 group together when I was in New Brunswick, but even they weren't sure which version of the game they preferred.

Looking good Bob...I do like those bergstrom minis...the titanium models work well also. Do you have the 1 inch fighters or the fleet scale?

Cheers,
Stan

I actually don't have any of the Bergstrom fighters. For BSG, I use cardboard counters. I have light escorts that are often called fighters for Star Trek. For those, the Hidekis were from Bergstrom and the Jem'hadar bug ships were from Ender.

I recently received a Romando Galaxy-class, so I'll be writing about that soon. I also have some Ender Star Trek ships I'll review. I've been behind in my blog writing lately as I've been trying to keep up with work writing!
