IIRC, there is archaeological evidence for that sort of antler motif (along with cervidae motifs) among Scythian finds. and the mounts do look as though they could represent horses with antler-like decorations, rather than deer.

The funny thing is, I actually designed these minis for Eureka Miniatures for the game Aryiki (a game of Amazon mass combat http://www.aryiki.com/ NSFW) They actually are horses underneath the armour, despite the designs having deer. And the Klytika are the only nation that are actually fully clothed. Riding mounts, it does that to you.

Here is a very interesting link that I just found in a recent thread on the Fanaticus forum:

Might the old-style Achaean troops with large shields and long spears (the Pk in the DBA 3 / DBMM lists) count as something like the equivalent to Scots spearmen?

I am trying to figure out how my Amazons will be organized. I have Cataphracts with lances/javelins and Cataphracts with bows. I'm also looking at using levies (on foot) with slings (mainly because I've got a lot of the Mage Knight minis). There's a lot of ideas that clash or don't seem to weld themselves together.
