Books for Market Garden

Postby Duncan » Tue Mar 22, 2011 1:24 pm

I thought I would start a thread for books that people can read for inspiration for the upcoming campaign.

The obivious first book is "A Bridge Too Far" by Cornelius Ryan.

Right now I am reading "It Never Snows in September" by Robert Kershaw which gives a good account of the battle from the German point of view -- and has a lot of really nice pictures.

I watched the "A Bridge Too Far" movie awhile back, but are there any good documentaries as well?

Thanks;

Though not a documentary, several episodes of Band of Brothers deal with Market Garden

Another good book I just read is "A Magnificent Disaster" by David Bennett.

It gives a bit more detail about the planning (and sometimes lack thereof) and also about the role of XII Corps and VIII Corps which is often overlooked.

There are quite a few relevant books in the collection of the Ottawa Public Library's Main Branch.
