Heavy Gear Kickstarter Project
I am starting this post on Sunday, September 11th and I’m hoping to receive shipping confirmation for my Heavy Gear Kickstarter backer rewards Monday. When it does arrive I want to get everything painted and have all the tokens, counters and objectives required to play. I may sneak in the occasional digression, like painting lampposts for my Batman Miniature Game project, but otherwise I want to finish Heavy Gear before I become distracted. To this end I need a plan.
Planning the Project
The Kickstarter includes four factions and a rulebook. My first task is to get a faction painted and arrange the tokens and counters required. The four factions in the Kickstarter are:
- North
- South
- Caprice
- CEF
My faction has always been North. I’ve previously painted a full army of Northern Gears, double what I would need for a standard game under the new rules.
I don’t know if I’ll ever be a multi-faction gamer for Heavy Gear but since I have the miniatures, and a rule about leaving things unpainted, I am going to paint every faction in the Kickstarter. Instead of starting with the North, as was my initial plan, I think I’ll start with the South. I’ve never painted a significant number of Southern Gears and doing so will give me a “demo” set to start sharing the game with.
I think painting order, as far as factions go, will be:
- South
- Caprice
- CEF
- North
I want to having working tokens by the time the South is painted and start upgrading them throughout the project.
Should I Magnetize?
Originally my plan was to not magnetize my forces. I’ve seen magnetized miniatures for Heavy Gear and they usually end up as big balls of weapons. The advantage is army flexibility is tempting, especially for the factions I’m less familiar with as I’m not sure what loadouts are best. Most likely I will not magnetize. If I play this game enough where I can experiment with force composition I’ll be more than happy to buy and paint the loadouts I’m missing.
There we go, my super-rough initial plan. You can follow my progress below or subscribe to receive updates as they happen.
