Heavy Gear Blitz! Tournament: Part 1
Tactics
The general plan will be to have a two-forward, one back formation. The GP Squads will move forward, staying mobile, weakening and delaying the enemy while trying to avoid overkill results. The Fire Support Squad would act as a mobile reserve if one of the GP Squads get in trouble. I'll try to achieve local superiority on a vulnerable portion of my opponent's forces. Once this happens the Fire Support Squad will move in and, with the help of the GP Squad, blast the opponent's units off the battlefield. Meanwhile the un-commited GP Squad would run interference against any of the enemy's units trying to reinforce my targets.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to play a few games, practice my tactics and just familiarize myself with the rules before the tournament. Unfortunately, the HG club plays Sundays, when I'm working. Fingers crossed that my shift will change for the better.
Purchases
I've ordered the following. As you can see with the Infantry Platoon, I'm leaving some options only. The Hunter pack is to replace the Jaguar with a Headhunter in the Fire Support Squad.
- Northern GP Squad
- Northern Fire Support Squad
- Northern Hunter (2pack)
- Norther Infantry Platoon
- Swords of Pride (for knowing my enemy)
- Blitz Counters (I already have 3 sets. This should be good for anything I field)

My Cangames Order
Progress
My order arrived Tuesday, April 3rd. I was really happy when I drove out to the post office the next day to pick it up. So much DP9 goodness. The new Grizzlies are huge compared to the Hunters, which are actually noticably smaller than the older Hunters. They were not the cleanest castings in the world, and I noticed Friday that the Northern Infantry Platoon contained all Southern Infantry miniatures. Ooops, that'll have to go back for replacement.
- Painted
- Nothing, but almost finished a GP Squad (just need to paint the bases)
- Need to paint
- Northern Fire Support Squad
- Northern General Purpose Squad
- Norther Hunters (2) - to swap out the Jaguar from the Fire Support Squad, and to give me the option to choose between links MRPs on the Grizzlies, or a Medium Bazooka for a Hunter
- Infantry Platoon - in case I change my mind on the army layout
My next step after I finish my GP Squad is to start on the Fire Support Squad. It'll give me a break from Hunters all the time. Any casting flaws will be masked as battle-damage, although there's a mold line on the Grizzlies' legs that I don't know what to do with. Look for pictures of the GP Squad next week
